In Season 10.10.12

Pumpkins have been a bright spot in Illinois farm production this year. A relative of squashes, cucumbers, watermelons and cantaloupe, pumpkins cope better than most crops in drought conditions.  It's a sudden change from recent years, when soggy conditions have hurt pumpkin production.[AP]

The wine grape harvest in the Umpqua Valley of Oregon has been a big improvement over the past two years when late summer weather was cool and wet. The Umpqua Valley typically yields 2.7 to 2.9 tons of grapes a year. Yields in 2010 and 2011 yields were 1.2 tons and 1.5 tons, respectively.
This year's yields could reach 3 tons. Wineries started harvesting grapes in early October; picking will continue through the end of the month. [NRToday]
