In the Des Moines Register, Heather Torpy suggests four seasonal items to look for at the Des Moines Downtown Farmers' Market in October:1. Lard. "For flaky, decadent pie crusts you will need lard."
2. Yarn. "The cooler weather is here and it's time to break out the scarves, hats and mittens. Buy some yarn so you can make your own."
3. Nut butters and jelly.
4. Winter squash, pumpkins and sweet potatoes.
